Frequently Asked Questions

What is the practical difference between a fully integrated and a semi-integrated dishwasher?

With a fully integrated dishwasher, the controls are hidden on the top edge of the door and the entire front face is covered by a cabinetry panel that matches the rest of your kitchen joinery. This gives a completely uninterrupted visual line across the kitchen. A semi-integrated dishwasher has a panel on the lower portion of the door but retains a visible control strip at the top. It still looks far cleaner than a freestanding model, but the controls are more accessible during a cycle. The choice usually comes down to whether your renovation brief calls for a completely hidden appliance or whether ease of access to the control panel is a priority.

How noisy is a built-in dishwasher, and does brand make a difference?

Yes, brand makes a significant difference. Standard built-in dishwashers typically operate around 50 dBA, which is audible in an open-plan kitchen. Premium models, particularly from Miele and ASKO, operate at 40 to 44 dBA,a level that would not be very noticeable, even when you’re in the same space. If your kitchen opens onto a living or dining area, noise rating is one of the most important specs to consider when.

Can I specify a custom cabinetry panel for my integrated dishwasher?

Panel-ready integrated dishwashers accept a custom door panel made to match your cabinetry, supplied and fitted by your kitchen joiner or cabinetmaker. This is the standard approach for many kitchen renovations. The dishwasher's mounting frame and door hinge system are designed to accommodate a panel of a specified thickness and weight, so it is important to confirm those specifications with the appliance supplier before the joinery is made. Our team can provide the technical specifications for any model in our range.

How does the water efficiency of a built-in dishwasher compare to washing by hand?

A premium built-in dishwasher uses considerably less water than hand washing for the same load. Hand washing a full load of dishes typically uses 40 to 60 litres of water; a modern efficient dishwasher cycle uses between 9 and 12 litres. Over a year of daily use, the difference is significant. Programs that include an eco or auto-sense mode will further reduce consumption by adjusting water use to the load rather than running a fixed volume.

What should I check before purchasing a built-in dishwasher for a renovation?

The key measurements are the cavity dimensions, height, width and depth of the space the dishwasher will occupy, along with the location of the water supply and drain connection. Most standard built-in dishwashers are 60cm wide and sit between 82cm and 92cm in height, with height adjustment provided by adjustable feet. For fully integrated dishwashers, you will also need to confirm the maximum door panel thickness the hinge mechanism will support.
