New Year, New Kitchen: 2021 Trends and Tips

New Year, New Kitchen!

New year, new kitchen! We’ve been on the lookout for what’s trending and what’s on the horizon for 2021 kitchens and here’s what we’ve found.

Benchtops

Island benches are trending. Ever since the pandemic, the kitchen bench has become a place where the family gathers. Not only is it extra space to prepare food, but it doubles as a place to help the kids with their homework or a space to work from home.

An island bench can become the focal point of an open plan living space and the shape of island benches are changing too, we are starting to see L-shape and arches make a comeback!

Another island trend is to add your cooktop on to the bench. It’s a modern look and you can still interact and socialise with friends or family whilst you cook.

Cabinetry

Shaker, v-groove and profile timbers are set to make a huge appearance in new and remodelled kitchens this year.

To create a harmonious look in the kitchen, integrate your appliances such as dishwashers, rangehoods and fridges into the cabinetry.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match lighter tones with dark. Your wall and floor cabinetry don’t need to match. In fact, it was a big trend in 2020 to put darker cabinetry up top with whites and lighter tones below. 2pac and matte finishes have been on the rise for a while now and we expect this trend to continue in 2021.

Lighting

Pendant lighting was a huge trend in 2020 and we predict this trend will continue into 2021. You can get some classy looking pendant lights and some even double as a rangehood! Take this Sirius Pendant rangehood for example, trendy and practical.

LED strips underneath cabinets are also a good way to create ambience whilst giving off that bit of extra lighting.

Pantries and storage

With the increase of at home chefs purchasing many new appliances, there is a greater need for more storage space. With bench space being a precious commodity, a butler’s pantry is a great place to store your small appliances such as your Smeg kettle, mixer, or toaster.

However, if space is an issue, pull out pantries are a fantastic alternative.

Colour scheme

With people spending so much time in their homes over the past year, people are looking at ways to brighten the mood. Whilst whites and darker colours tend to dominate the kitchen colour scheme, 2021 is set to see tranquil palettes of warm earthy, organic, and natural tones enter the kitchen to uplift your everyday living!

Specialty Ovens

Homeowners are investing in specialty ovens as they spend more time cooking at home. Ovens like the convection microwave oven or a steam oven are allowing people to cook quality food from the comfort of their own home. These ovens might also reflect the desire for a healthier lifestyle as people become aware of the health benefits of cooking with steam.

We hope these trends have given you inspiration to create your dream kitchen and don’t forget you can always seek the help of your friendly local Designer Appliances team who are ready to assist with all your kitchen needs.
