All About Steam: What You Need to Know

What does steam refer to in laundry?

Steam has been increasingly used in washing machines and dryers to assist in the cycle of operation. The created steam that is dispersed is typically used to hygienically eliminate harmful particles that linger on clothing. Steam can also be used to lightly refresh and revitalise, as well as reduce creases and wrinkles when used on its own (without a washing cycle).

What are the benefits of steam washing or drying?

Added steam in a washing or drying cycle hygienically removes causes of illness and disease such as allergens, bacteria, viruses, germs and other pathogens. Steam washing or dryer is especially beneficial for households who suffer from allergies, Asthma, respiratory illnesses, and other sensitivities.

 How do steam cycles work?

The washing machine or dryer creates the steam before applying it to your garments. Depending on the steam function’s use, it may be applied before or after the washing or drying program starts. For example, the SteamCure™ cycle in Beko’s washing machines (BFL104ADW) start before water is added, helping to soften and lift dirt from garments that are easily removed when washing begins.

In Beko’s dryers (BDPB904HW ), the Steam Refresh program applies steam and tumble dries clothing to refresh garments, as well as remove odours and wrinkles. Running a Steam Refresh program eliminates the need for a full wash cycle for lightly soiled items. Beko dryers with IronFinish functions also use steam to smooth out creases for easier ironing.

When do I use the Steam Cycle?

Any time is a great time to take advantage of steam in your washing or drying. Steam washing or drying is perfect for use when your need to eliminate the spread of illness in the home or to refresh lightly soiled garments. When you need to reduce ironing time, drying your clothes with steam will also remove creases to make ironing easier.

Is using Steam sustainable and efficient?

Using steam in your laundry can prove to be efficient and not just for the purposes of reducing wrinkles or revitalising garments. For example, when running a steam refresh program, there is a reduced need for putting a full wash on, therefore saving on both energy and water consumption.

The energy and water ratings of Beko’s appliances with steam are further proof that using steam is better for you, your wallet and the environment. For example, the 10kg Front Load Washing Machine (BFL104ADW) features a 4-Star Energy and 4.5-Star WELS Water Rating while the 9kg Heat Pump Dryer (BDPB904HW) boasts an 8-Star Energy Rating.

How Do I Use the Steam Cycle in Beko Washing Machines?

In Beko’s washing machines, the steam function can be applied to many wash programs. These include Cottons, Synthetics, Daily-Quick, Quick 14, Bedding & Blanket and Shirts. Meanwhile, the steam function already exists in the Anti-Allergy+ and Drum Clean programs. Steam works best on a small or half load to ensure that creases can be effectively reduced. The automatic use of steam in the Anti-Allergy+ program helps to soften and lift dirt. Before washing, steam must be selected on the control panel before starting the wash program. For detailed instructions, we recommend that you follow the user manual.

How Do I Use the Steam Cycle in Beko Dryers?

Steam can be used in conjunction with the drying cycles that have a blue line against them on the control panel, these include: the ‘5kg in 1 hour’, Mix Daily, Jeans, Cottons, Cottons Eco, Synthetics and Hygienic Drying. The steam tank will need to be filled with water and you need to select the program of your choice, then tap on the ‘steam’ option before drying starts. For detailed instructions, we recommend that you follow the user manual.
